Walk with a Doc Program

AARP’s “Walk with a Doc” program originated from a concept created by cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir in Columbus, Ohio. He invited his patients to join him for a walk in a local park, which unexpectedly drew a large crowd, thus sparking the idea for a community-based walking program led by a doctor.

Beginning in early Spring, 2025, FPMA would like to replicate this community-based walking program led by our members in Walk with a Doc locations throughout Florida. Volunteer Walk Leaders are licensed healthcare providers that truly walk the talk!

  • Each Walk with a Doc event starts with a brief discussion on a current health topic, followed by the opportunity to ask questions while the group walks together. Walk Leaders will deliver reliable tips to help patients/walkers maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Research suggests that building connections with others can improve your quality of life, boost your mood, and decrease your risk of depression. Walk with a Doc groups are a fun way to get to know new people, or spend time with your neighbors, family, and friends to share a common goal: walking TOGETHER for better health.
  • Walk with a Doc is located all around the nation and the world; find a Walk closest to you by using the search tool on the Walk with a Doc website.
