All providers and suppliers must begin using the revised ABN starting September 1, 2008.

"Beginning Monday, March 3, 2008, providers (including independent laboratories), physicians, practitioners, and suppliers may use the revised ABN for all situations where Medicare payment is expected to be denied. The revised ABN replaces the existing ABN-G (Form CMS-R-131G), ABN-L (Form CMS-R-131L), and NEMB (Form CMS-20007). CMS will allow a 6-month transition period from the date of implementation for use of the revised form and instructions. Thus, all providers and suppliers must begin using the revised ABN (CMS-R-131) no later than September 1, 2008." FFS ABN-G and ABN-L

  • Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction for Mohs Micrographic Surgery (from First Coast Service Providers) (1/24/08)

Under the multiple procedure payment reduction policy, payment for subsequent surgical procedures performed during the same operative session by the same physician is reduced by 50 percent. The Mohs surgery codes have been exempt from the multiple procedure payment reduction rules since the inception of the physician fee schedule.

Effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2008, the multiple procedure indicator for CPT codes 17311 and 17313 will be changed from “No payment adjustment rules for multiple procedures apply" to “Standard payment adjustment rules for multiple procedures apply.” Therefore, subsequent procedures will be subject to the 50 percent reduction when performed on the same date of service.
